A Summertime Winter Wonderland…
When most people think of Austria during the summer months there first thoughts are beautiful sunny days, paddling in the lakes and hiking through the lush green hills. Not 40cm of crisp white snow with temperatures plummeting towards freezing. Over the weekend, numerous regions of Austria woke up to a picturesque winter wonderland. Ski towns such as Bad Gastein, Rauris and Sankt Jacob welcomed the ski season a few months too early, not expecting vast amounts of snow in August! Similarly Obertauern, a ski resort in Salzburg saw most of the snowfall with temperatures dropping to minus figures! Families in these areas were strapping on there winter boots instead of sandals this August to play in snow.
