The Lungau region is a particularly beautiful part of Austria with many mountains and undulating pastures. Here you can find picture perfect castles behind virtually every bend in the road. The area is relatively un-touristic and the charming village of St Martin has several restaurants, traditional gasthofs, tea houses and bars. The main streets are lined with historic buildings. These provide all the shops you need – butchers, bakers, and supermarkets. For a larger shopping area there is the historic fortified town of Mauterndorf just 10 minutes drive away.

St Martin is just 70 minutes south of Salzburg airport or 70 minutes north of Klagenfurt Airport, from which Easyjet now fly! Munich Airport is just over 2 hours 30 minutes away.
The village of St. Martin is in at the centre of the Lungau ski region and are located between the Grosseck-Speiereck & Aineck-Katschberg ski slopes. These offer over 120km of skiing with 36km of easy, 67km intermediate and 17km difficult runs at altitudes of up to 2,400m.
The Grosseck-Speiereck pistes have a reputation for being the most family-friendly and can be reached directly from the village. The Aineck-Katschberg ski lift can be taken from nearby St Margarethen which is just moments away. Aineck’s pistes are mostly wide blues and reds, which are perfect for carving. It is even possible to ski a single 6km run from the top of the mountain to the base of the valley.

Just around the corner is the modern ski resorts of Katschberg (1,640m– 2,210m) and Obertauern (1,740m–2,350m). Here you can find 63 lifts and 300km of ski piste all on the same lift pass. Some villages are connected by a modern lift system and others by the ski bus. For cross country skiers there are over 150km to explore; as well as sledding, ice skating and curling.
There are many charming farming villages within the Lungau region which lie off the main traffic route and are an ideal spot for family relaxation. St Martin is a centrally located starting point for numerous activities. There are many cycle routes and cycling is relatively easy in the valley, with mountain biking for the more energetic. The Murtalradroute (Mur valley bike route) passes nearby. You can hike along the Leisnitz water trail where you can experience mountain springs and explore 58 magnificent mountain lakes. You can enjoy rafting or guided mountaineering as well as rock-climbing, horse riding, tennis, swimming and even paragliding which is also available locally.
Golfers can enjoy the beautiful 18-hole Lungau-Katschberg par 72 tournament course which is just 5mins walk from the chalets. There is also a 9-hole practice course, a 280m driving range, and a clubhouse and restaurant. St. Martin is in the sunniest region in Austria with over 200 days of sunshine a year and this course with its fantastic mountainous backdrop is a top class golfing facility. There are four other golf clubs within 40km.
