The village is situated directly next to the Rosskar ski lift and is surrounded by 110km of fantastic ski slopes with a panorama gondola connecting the villages of Obergurgl and Hochgurgl.
Obergurgl is situated in the same valley as Sölden and is only 80 minutes from Innsbruck airport.

The region has 24 ultra-modern lifts. It also has the access point for the Rosskar lift up to the 9,967ft Festkogel peak. Uniquely, there is the opportunity to ski the Festkogel at night! Every Tuesday evening you can zoom down this fantastic slope in floodlights and then watch the Obergurgl ski-school’s impressive torch-light descent.
There are also other winter activities available, such as over 12km of cross country ski trails, a further 12km of winter walking trails (including snow-shoe tours), ice-skating and curling.
Just 15 minutes down the road from Obergurgl is the top ski resort of Solden. This is Austria’s only ski area with three mountains above 3,000m which are all accessible by lifts or gondolas. It is even possible to ski from the top of the glacier 12km down to the bottom of town without the need for lifts.
Sölden’s signature ski journey is called the Big-3 Rally which is a circuit entailing 50km of skiing and 10,000m of vertical which encompasses three spectacular viewing platforms built over the valleys below. The route begins on the Giggijogh gondola and through the “Golden Gate” to the glaciers and takes approximately four hours for intermediate skiers to complete.
Obergurgl is a fantastic place for winter activities, but it is in the summer that the scenery really comes into its own. Take the Hohe Mut walkers’ gondola lift up to one of Austria’s most beautiful mountains and enjoy the outstanding view of 21 peaks and numerous glaciers.
There are countless walking and hiking opportunities waiting for you, be it a family walk, a glacier tour or a mountain ascent. And if you fancy a change, there are a large range of bike trails too: leisurely paths in the valley and more challenging single-track trains in the Ötztal mountains.
If you’ve had enough of the mountains, why not have a go at some golf in the new 700m2 indoor Golf Adventure World which has realistic training conditions, ultra-modern simulators and a large putting green. Afterwards, when it’s time to relax, there is a fabulous thermal spa just moments away, with an aqua dome waterpark for the children to enjoy.
