The gorgeous village Niederau is located in the Wildschönau valley in the Tyrol province. Niederau boasts picturesque houses, a small gothic church, delicious restaurants, friendly cafés, shops and hotels. The whole valley enjoys breath-taking views of the mountains and nature as it is far away from mass tourism, making it the perfect retreat for relaxation and family time.

What We Love About Niederau:
Niederau is situated in a magnificent skiing and walking area in the Tyrol province of Austria and is surrounded by mountains and a picturesque countryside with forests and Alpine lakes. Besides offering a fantastic selection of shops, cafes and restaurants, this pretty town is located only a 55 minutes’ drive from the beautiful capital city Innsbruck. On top of this, Niederau is located only a short drive from the Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser and the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau.
Niederau is located in the heart of the Wildschönau Region with 24km of skiing on your doorstep. In Niederau you can find an excellent and also the first ski school ever of the whole Wildschönau Region. The family-friendly resort has 6km of blue pistes, 12km of red pistes and 6km of black pistes on offer. The winter sports area is situated at an elevation of 828 metres up to 1,621 metres and has 12 lifts to transport guests. During winter Niederau has a wide range of alternative activities to skiing on offer such as guided winter walks or snow shoe walks.
Niederau has a great mix of relaxed and lively après bars around the gondola base station. After a long day on the slopes you can enjoy après ski at the Schnappshütte or a long night in the Cave Bar, which is one of the most popular haunts, especially for karaoke.
Furthermore, Niederau is only a 10 minutes’ free bus ride away from the ‘Ski Juwel Wildschönau – Alpbachtal’. The Ski Juwel has a total of 109km of skiing on offer, comprising of 26km of blue-, 54km of red- and 13km of black pistes as well as 16km of marked piste routes. On top of this, the Ski Juwel Alptachtal Wildschönau offers a snow park and a ski race area. For those who cannot get enough of skiing, in the Wildschönau it is also possible to go nightskiing.
Also, the Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser is only a short ride from Niederau. The Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser has another 284km of skiing on offer, comprising of 122km of blue pistes, 129km of red pistes and 33km of black pistes. On top of this, the Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser is one of the largest and most modern ski resorts in the world. With 90 modern lifts, three toboggan runs and fun parks, the resort perfectly fits for beginners, families with young children or more advanced skiers as well as for only winter and snow lovers.
On the Markbachjoch skiers meet in winter, however, in summer it is a popular viewing and hiking mountain. Niederau offers a great variety of popular hiking destinations such as the Kasalm / Holzalm, the Norderbergalm, the Rosskopf or a longer tour on the Feldalphorn. The Hiking World Championship, which is the largest hiking event for ramblers, experts and clubs in Europe was held in Niederau in September 2018.
The Wildschönau is an insider tip for exciting mountain bike tours. A bike tour on Wildschönauer pastures and mountains is always an experience with mountain bikes or electric bikes.
Niederau in the Wildschönau is also well-known as a child-friendly holiday destination. There is a summer toboggan run, a great variety of family walks or diverse playgrounds to ensure active holidays for kids. There are also specialised riding programs for children and an open-air pool with plenty of activities.
Another typical feature of the Wildschönauer place Niederau is that the sky is full of the countless, coloiurful umbrellas of the paragliders and hang gliders, as here is Tyrol’s most famous paragliding school. Also, the Alpbachtal which is located only moments from Niederau was named Austria’s most beautiful village thanks to its picturesque wooden houses decorated with colourful flowers set in the middle of the mountains.
