Financial Times: Kitzbühel property hunters discover alternatives in surrounding villages

In this weekend’s Financial Times House & Home section Liz Rowlinson talks in depth about the property market of the Tirol region, whilst Kitzbühel gets prepared for the 80th Hahnenkamm World Cup Ski Races. The highly anticipated event takes place from the 20th to the 26th of January 2020 on Mount Hahnenkamm. The extremely challenging slope hosts the world’s elite skiers and has proved to be the biggest social event of the winter, bringing in thousands of spectators along with celebrities from Hollywood and Formula One. Kitzbühel is known for its elegant hotels, boutique shops and timeless medieval buildings.


The picturesque Alpine village is surrounded by mountains and is full of beautiful chalets and apartments in Tyrolean style architecture. Managing director of Alpine Marketing Jessica Delaney mentions that “the surrounding villages also offer more development opportunities for new-build apartment buildings with buyers typically spending €750,000 to €1.5m”. The Oberndorf Residences are selling for 1 to 4 bedrooms from €495,000. These beautiful residences are being built within close proximity to Kitzbühel and boast stylish Alpine features complimented with a modern twist.


In other villages around Kitzbühel, the charming village of Ellmau is situated only a 20-minute drive from the popular resort. UK buyers thinking of buying in the Kitzbühel area should get their racing skis on, as mentioned by Liz Rowlinson. The “Austrian Embassy confirmed this month that UK citizens will retain the same rights to buy property as EU citizens only until the end of the transition period”.
