All aboard: Why train hopping to your ski chalet is the coolest way to travel this winter

On the weekend of the 23rd of November, Liz Rowlinson of The Daily Telegraph released her new article on the effects of travelling by plane and how to get on the slopes without the eco guilt. Along with the properties that are accessible straight off the train! If you've ever found it difficult to check in at airports, go through packed security, rush to your gate, to only be told that it's delayed. We have all been there and have always wanted an easier way to travel to the Alps. Well, now there is! With the Alpen Express train line, you will be whisked from London St Pancras, stop in Amsterdam quickly (just enough time to stock up on Stroopwaffles!) then straight to your favourite Austrian ski resort. Overnight the Alpen Express has no stops, so you’ll be able to sleep the whole way, uninterrupted. The Alpen Express train service runs to and from Austria every Friday from December to March 2020.

Forget the hassle of airports

There are now more reasons than ever to opt for train over plane travel. Unlike airports, train stations are generally in town centres, so there’s no need to worry about long transfers to your favourite ski resort. Alpine property owners can simply hop off the train and head directly to their cosy chalet or apartment upon arrival. Forget airport security queues and the non-existent legroom on planes. When traveling on the Alpen Express to Austria, breakfast included in your booking, plus each sleeping car has two bathrooms. You’ll also have your own train steward ready at your request. So, you can peer out of the window, onto the stunning mountain scenery the whole way there! If you want to begin the party early; Book yourself the après-ski bar which is a disco carriage on tracks for you and loved ones enjoy. And, to top it all off, you will also get a couple of extra days on the slopes with the overnight sleeper train. You’ll be waking up to the crisp day-light and snow-capped mountains of Austria.

Travel light and travel eco-friendly

Trains are also a more environmentally friendly way to travel, producing 90% less CO2 emissions than air travel per passenger. So, you’ll get to travel in style, and also reduce your carbon footprint. It’s a win-win. Situated close to the main train stations in the Austrian Alps are a number of our properties. For example, why not hop off the Alpen Express (Bludenz line) at the Langen am Arlberg station. From here, you are an easy 20-minute taxi away from the very centre of Lech am Arlberg – Austria’s most glamourous ski resort. The Vorarlberg Residences and The Arlberg Chalets are located in the centre of this beautiful village, with boutique shops, 5* hotels and restaurants, and also 340km of pistes on the doorstep. Prices in The Vorarlberg Residences start from 1,845,000 EUR for a 2-bedroom apartment. The Arlberg Chalets start from 9,900,000 EUR for a 4-bedroom apartment.

Alternative routes

Alternatively, you could disembark the Alpen Express (Bischoshofen line) at Kirchberg or Kitzbühel train station. Kirchberg is just the third stop after Amsterdam, and Kitzbühel is the fourth. Property owners can simply hop in a cab from either station or be back at their mountain home in a matter of minutes. Chalets and apartments located nearby these train stations can enjoy easy access to over 469km of groomed pistes in the Kitzbühel Alps. For example, The Kirchberg Chalets are nestled between stunning mountain peaks, only a 9-minute taxi from the train station. Additionally, The Kitzbühel Lodges are just a 15-minute taxi from Kitzbühel train station. Prices in The Kirchberg Chalets start from 4,200,00 EUR for a 3-bedroom apartment. The Kitzbühel Lodges start from 4,275,00 for a 4-bedroom apartment.
