Austria’s Best Christmas Markets…
Advent in the Alps is a magical time of year. It starts in November with traditional market stalls selling an array of pretty decorations and festive gifts. There’s plenty of mulled wine to keep you warm and many of the towns also have brass bands playing. Ice skating in the central squares also makes visiting at this special time of year a must. Here are the dates for some of Austria’s best Christmas Markets:
Salzburg Christmas Market
Held beneath the rooftops of one of Austria’s most romantic city, the Salzburg Christkindlmarkt is as picturesque as they come. This city’s Christmas Markets date all the way back to the 15th Century. Still today stalls offer an array of sweet treats and freshly baked goods, along with classic Christmas decorations and cosy clothes to keep you warm all season long.
Where: On Cathedral and Residenz Square, in Salzburg’s historic city centre.
When: 23rd November – 26th December 2017
Opening hours: Monday-Thursday 10am-8.30pm; Fridays and December 7th 10am-9pm; Saturdays and holidays 9am-9pm; Sundays 9am-8.30pm; 24th December 9am-3pm; 25th – 26th December 11am-6pm

Innsbruck Christmas Market
This Austrian town has not one, but six Christmas Markets during the season. Held in the shadow of the famous Golden Roof and a whopping 14-meter tall Christmas tree, these markets ensure that Innsbruck comes alive with festivity throughout the season. There is plenty for all the family as events include kids’ puppet theatres, storytelling and a petting zoo!

Kitzbühel Christmas Market
Not one to ever be out done by its Austrian equivalents, Kitzbühel captures the festive spirit with a host of exciting events from its start to finish. Highlights include the Grand Opening on November 30th, the Krampus Run on December the 6th and the Wilten Boys’ Choir Concert – all of which are free of charge. All this combined with the smell of mulled wine and sweet Austrian delights is sure to get yourself and your family excited for Christmas.
